How Much Money Can You Save using LED Lights

LED lights are fast becoming the first choice for people. It is a more environmentally-friendly alternative to incandescent bulbs, and it has many applications such as cold rooms, rigs, board ships, chimney stacks, telecommunication towers, emergency lighting, task lights, etc.

What are the LED lights?

LED lights are made of a light-emitting diode (LED), which is an electronic component capable of generating light in a semiconductor material. They are more durable than incandescent lights and have become the most sustainable form of light bulbs on the market. LED has existed for a while, and over time, it keeps getting improved in terms of efficiency, cost, and output, making it a choice in households, businesses, and other environments. Different LED products now exist with wide ranges of capabilities and life span. Unlike incandescent bulbs that emit only a fraction of the energy they consume as light, LED bulbs take up far less energy and give off equal –in some cases, more light, making them cooler than incandescent. LEDs use less power, giving them an efficiency gain over the incandescent bulbs up to 80%.

Benefits of LED light bulbs

  • LED lights produce far less heat than other kinds of lightning systems
  • They don’t contain mercury like fluorescent bulbs and contain a minimal level of materials that could be considered toxic.
  • LED lights are far more efficient than many other light sources. There is little or no lost light, they can be customized to have different colors, and there are many constant voltage drivers for LED lights designed explicitly for different workloads.
  • LEDs don’t often need replacements like other conventional light sources because of their long life span. Its lack of movable parts or filaments that may break is a significant factor for its lifespan—making it a well suitable choice for places that are not easily accessible for lamp replacements.

Cost of LED light bulbs

Upon initial purchase, LEDs are more expensive than other options, but for a good reason. They could cost from $9- $40, depending on the type. This could initially feel like an expensive purchase, especially if you are looking to replace a significant number or all of the lights in your house, business, factory, etc.

In the long run, however, the lifetime cost of LEDs is its energy efficiency. A 10 watt LED bulb is just as efficient as a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but LEDs would outlive the incandescent bulbs.

How Much You Save With LED Lights

If one LED bulb costs $5, you will get more hours from it than you would with an incandescent bulb. Because these other bulbs are not as durable and efficient as LEDs, you tend to spend way more money to get the same hours you would get out of a LED. Filaments could quickly burn out in those $1 bulbs, for example, and within months you may have spent tens of dollars in replacement bulbs.

Apart from the cost of purchase and longevity, LEDs are a great way to cut on energy consumption and save a reasonable amount of money in power bills. If, for example, it costs $35 in total to power all of the LEDs in a home, it could cost about $201 if you were using incandescent bulbs. Another factor that affects how much you could save when you make use of LEDs is the quality or brand of choice.  Some types of LED lights allow you to save more than others, but in general, while it is hard to estimate how much money you can save using LEDs, they will certainly let you save a lot more than other choices in the market.
